It has given a new direction to my professional life. Sir Imran is such a sincere teacher. It is hard to find teachers like this these days. I completed four months of clinical nutrition training under sir Imran Ali at Surayya Azeem Teaching Hospital. In these four months, every major category under medical nutrition therapy was covered including enteral feeding, parenteral feeding, pediatric nutrition, food allergies, burns, surgeries, rheumatology, anemias, cancer, psychology, neurology, endocrinology, pulmonology, cardiology, hepatobilliary, gastrointestology, nephrology and weight management. Enteral, parenteral and pediatric nutrition was especially covered in a detail not found in most other clinical nutrition training programs. They were five main highlights of this program which made it stand out from the many other nutrition internship programs in Lahore. Firstly, sir Imran gave lectures in an easy to understand and to the point manner while using reputed international texts as references. Secondly, this program strongly emphasized practical skills needed in the management for each disease covered including assessment techniques, food choices and nutritional supplements. This was done with the aid of case studies, ward rotations, assignments and tests. Thirdly, the online accounts made as part of the internship provided excellent handouts and textbooks to every student. Additionally, sir Imran has a vast clinical nutrition experience which he shared freely with the class when every topic was covered which enhanced the quality of learning. Lastly and most importantly, sir Imran proved to be a patient and sincere teacher who took the time to answer every students question in detail until the student was satisfied with the answer. In just four months, this program enabled me to develop a much deeper understanding of medical nutrition therapy and enhance my practical patient management skills. I highly recommend this program to every student who is interested in a future in clinical nutrition.
